The practice of using wood for paving was widespread in cities from the 18th century. You can find remnants in several locations around The City of London. Wooden blocks were used to dampen down the noise of hooves. We reimagined this material on this residential project in London, using green-timber hand cut at a saw mill local to the contractors. The timber is expected to shrink and silver further, bringing warmth and character to a terrace, where we completed a further three zones for eating, cooking and entertaining.
